Monitor Says OUT OF RANGE during Boot But still Works...

Here's another one for ya...

I've got a ATI Radeon 7000 64mb ddr PCI Slot Graphics Card...
Capable of running 1024x768.

This didn't show up on the Live run of Gutsy.

But after I installed it during bootup it says 1280x1024 Monitor out of range.

Wait a few seconds it'll come up and Start to go into the Splash Screen, Then do the Samething Out of Range.

Comes back up during Desktop Load then runs fine...
In 1024x768 75hz Mode...

It doesn't bother me really because at least it works.
But it's one of those things that'll drive you CRAZY from curosity...

It's probably just switching resolutions.
Of course, it could also be that between resolutions, it is being sent a signal which is indeed out of range.

I don't know if it'll get rid of it or not, but you could try backing up /etc/X11/xorg.conf and executing "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg", specifying your monitor's refresh rates and your desired resolutions.

I remember doing this once in Mepis to solve a prob. BUT?

I can't remember the line cmds to start and stop kdm...

Or are these even needed for this? I can't remember it's been quite awhile THANKS...

No, it's not needed.

However, if you really had to, you can stop KDM with "sudo /etc/init.d/kdm stop".

I get a weird error I never saw before too with gusty like you, but it boots ok so don't sweat it.

Agreed, I finally decided not to sweat it as well, But I kept the cmd lines though just incase I need them in thr future. Thanks.
