    Ati hd2400

    Dear all

I just bought myself a new laptop, a fine mf: Samsung x22

My plan was to use Kubuntu 7.04 alone on my new laptop, as I did on my old one. But unfortunatly I have had issues with graphics ever since I got the machine last monday, the 8 th of october.

I have surfed the net and found help from a lot of sites that discuss this well-known issue. But unfortunatly no-one resolved the problem for my machine.

Yesterday I installed kubuntu 7.10 in hope that these issues would have been resolved. But they are not resolved.
Most recently I tried the guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI but it doesn't work. It says that my hardware doesn't need restricted drivers when I use:
KMenu → System Settings → Advanced → Restricted Drivers and select "ATI accelerated graphics driver"

I have also tried: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide where there is a discription of manual installation. This doesn't work; it doesn't recognize --buildpkg.

Furthermore I have issues with my sound; When I mute using the Fn-keys the sound doesn't mute and when I change the volume the Fn-way I can only alter the volume by 11 %?
Additional the sound does not mute from speakers when I plug in my earplugs? Which is really bothering me.

    It comes with

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400

    and

    Realtek High Definition Audio

I hope you guys can help me

    Thank you

      Ati hd2400 and Restricted/Proprietary Drivers

Yesterday I installed kubuntu 7.10 in hope that these issues would have been resolved.
This isn't X/K/Ubuntu problem. It is AMD/Ati problem. If you goto the AMD homepage (http://www.amd.com/us-en/) and ati drivers (Linux/Radeon/Ati Radeon HD 2400) it will tell you:

NOTE: ATI Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver 8.41.7

The AMD Proprietary Linux driver version 8.41 is recommended for the ATI Radeon™ HD 2000 family only.

AMD recommends users of cards other than the ATI Radeon™ HD 2000 family continue to use the currently posted drivers for that product available for download on http://ati.amd.com/

Future releases will return to a unified driver supporting all product families.

      How this affects users:
Using this driver on any of the following products may result in stability issues on non-Workstation products. This driver will not work with any ATI FireGL™ or ATI FireMV™ products.

How this affects distribution maintainers and packagers:
This driver is not suitable for inclusion in distributions and is recommended to not be packaged into any mainstream distribution update. Distribution vendors may repackage and provide experimental packages, but should include the above warning to users.

Hopefully there will be new and working ( ) driver in this month.

Working? What do you mean by that?

Replacing this driver with the one in the guide:
        http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide
        does not solve the problem?

          From AMD 8.41.7 Display Driver
          http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?pag...item=833&num=1
this release is designed specifically for the AMD Radeon R600 (HD 2000) series. There are still bugs present for previous ATI GPU generations.
It is the first version of the new rewritten driver -> Someone would call it beta.

          8.42.x should have less bugs.

8.41.7 Could work to you (it should). It is "designed specifically for the AMD Radeon R600".

I have installed all the Ati drivers (8.36.5 - 8.41.7) in the same way: "Method 2: Install the 8.xx.x Driver Manually". Kubuntu Dapper - Gutsy, no problems.

            Re: Ati hd2400

I'm using the 8.41.7 driver on an X1600 (R500), and the only adverse effects I see are no gamma adjustment and little holes between textures in one game (probably the use of floating-point numbers somewhere they shouldn't be used).
It's working fine for me, though I'm still really hopeful for 8.42.

To install the 8.41.7 driver, I used that guide you mentioned (more or less).

              Thank you.

The problem for me seemed to be the aticonfig --initial command. I decided to change to fglrx-driver by explicitly entering xorg.conf.

Have you got any experience with regards to sound issue?

No, but it's been mentioned before. Search the forum for sound, hotkeys, 11%, etc.
