Is it possible to have Reiser4 file system in Kubuntu? I would love to see this file system included as standard. If not please put in Reiser 3.6 file system. Thanks.

Seconded. Perhaps I'm thick even by newbie standards, but when I was planning my recent move from SuSE 8.2 it hadn't occurred to me that Reiser would not be supported. I'd copied the vital bits onto CD, but was confident that I'd be able to boot off hda (Kubuntu) and suck anything off hdb (SuSE) before repartitioning the latter and reusing it as a back-up disk. Well, seems I was wrong. So after attending to more urgent problems I suppose I'll be looking for a CD-bootable distro that will let me read (copy from) Reiser hdb and write (copy) to ext3 hda. -

Gee whiz, I've been contemplating experimenting with RFS for some time, based on the belief that (K)Ubuntu supported it, out of the box. I thought that if you installed with the alternate installer disk instead of the desktop disk, that was one of the choices that it gave you. It is not yet implemented in the graphical installer. But you could use the alternative CD to install (worked for me, at least with Ubuntu) or like I did last time with the normal CD:
Booted the LiveCD, connected to the Internet and installed gparted from the repositories. With gparted I formatted the partitions I wanted to use with (guess what) ReiserFS (3.6).
I fired up the installer. I chose "Manual partitioning" (or called something similar) left the partitions unchanged and set up the mounting of the different partitions in the next dialogue, using the new ReiserFS partitions for / and home. Checked the "Format?" Checkbox next to them.
The installer will reformat the partitions then with *ReiserFS* and install the system as usual.
I have no idea though why ReiserFS is not given as an option in the first place. Obviously the installer is able to handle it... So that could be something to be implemented in the future. Maybe ReiserFS should even be made standard, because the routine filesystem check after the system was booted 30 times takes ages with ext3.Comment

It seems to me that when I installed badger (and again on dapper) if you use expert mode and manually set up your partitions reiserFS was available on installation. I remember it because it was my first time using reiserFS. Is there some part of this equation I am missing?Comment
