    Package Request: KMPlayer

May I suggest that KMPlayer is packaged officially ? It would be a great addition to Kubuntu users:
    • It is a great Media Players' front end.
    • It is actively developed, and approaching 1.0, see http://kmplayer.kde.org/
    • It works well with both Xine and Mplayer, which is a big plus, considering that at least in my experience some media plays with one and not with the other. Specially streaming media.
    • It embeds perfectly in Konqueror.
    • It uses the standard bookmarks mechanism of KDE. The one used by Konqueror and other apps, giving the desktop a more uniform look.

Sounds like a neat program. Too Bad the Ubuntu Download is down (But the Debain version should still work).

You know what, this program is really cool (downloaded it while writing this post). I'll make an (unofficial) Ubuntu deb for it...just because I've been wanting to practice my deb-making skills (which are invisible to most).

    Here it is: http://www.halovids.buildyourforum.c...ages/kmplayer/

      Re: Package Request: KMPlayer

      Hye,
Tx for the packages, but I have some problems with them:
they installed succesfully, but when I try to watch a video ( which is in wmv or QuickTime format, but old ones, it says: mplayer not running, or gstreamer not running or xine not running ( I tried to make it use one of them.)
Could you help me with this, since you apparently did get it to work properly.
      Tx.

There are several (unofficial) Ubuntu deb files at your ftp site for kmplayer. Which need to be installed for the program to work?

I see that one is a plugin, which I take to be for Mozilla/Firefox browsers (and Konqueror)?

Great news. Just came back from vacation, and found that KMPlayer is finally in the Dapper repositories (in Universe). Thanks a lot to everyone involved !

That's great news indeed. I'm using Dapper on one laptop and will install there.

I also use Breezy and was able to find a link for kmplayer for Breezy:

            http://mysite.verizon.net/vze1ui63/d....0.9.1a.tar.gz

Simply untar/zip the file, move to the directory with the deb files and run

            sudo dpkg -i *.deb

and you'll have kmplayer on your Breezy system.

                Re: Package Request: KMPlayer

                Hello All.

Accidentally using Kubuntu Dapper (long story) and have found that KMplayer to be the best media player I have tried in my short, sharp learning curve that is linux. For anyone new to Kubuntu, I can only suggest waiting for the stable version to be released in June and enjoy.

                Cheers
