    A 'Suggestion' more than a 'Feature'

    A suggestion - if i may be so bold....

    I read in a thread concerning the loss of the wastebin, that the reason for it to no longer be on the desktop is that Mark Shuttleworth wanted the desktop to initially be clean.

    If i may say so, this is easily achieved, i have three panels, the main one which is at the top of the screen - and contains most of the usual icons, and one at either side, on the left one are game applications, and on the right one are applications such as Kontact, Kpilot, Firefox, Thunderbird, Wastebin, etc.

    The panels are transparent, and auto-hide - all i can see is the wall-paper...... the desktop is cleaner than my floor.

    If one wants a trashcan on the desktop, as apposed to on the task bar, then this method was provided:

    To create a trash icon on your desktop, open a text editor and paste the following:

    [Desktop Entry]
    Comment=Contains removed files
    EmptyIcon=trashcan_empty
    Encoding=UTF-8
    Icon=trashcan_full
    Name=Trash
    NoDisplay=false
    OnlyShowIn=KDE
    Type=Link
    URL=trash:/

    and save it as ~/Desktop/trash.desktop

    I came across this some time ago.

      I was suggesting that - if the proposal is for an initially clean desktop, all apps can be mounted on auto-hiding, transparent panels, with nothing on the desktop at all.

      Maybe i didn't properly explain what i meant....

      Or maybe you've been contemplating too many cats.

        I would hate that. Auto hiding panels are evil.

        I get your point though.

        Personally I like having the trash on my taskbar, but I dont really care either way.

        My desktop may be "initially" clean, but it doesnt take but a few mins before it starts to get cluttered anyway.

          Not likely.

          More likely! (That, or I've secretly been into your stash of aged cider!!)
