    Okay this is what I get 8(from my Pclinuxos 2007 installation:

        This is from the feisty grub menu.lst I posted. As fstab sees evrything as sda i put sda in the menu.lst instead od the "uuid" stuff.

        kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.20-16-generic root=/dev/sda8
        This was generated when I ran:
        [root@dhcppc0 ~]# more /boot/grub/menu.lst | grep 'root'
        on my pclinuxos 2007 installation.
