Automount external usb hard disk ntfs formatted drive

I would like to have automounted my external ntfs formatted hard drive (with write support enabled) like the ubuntu users have (they have the option to choose to write too).

i think prolly the ONLY reason this doesn't "work" by default is cuz kubuntu prolly doesn't have ntfs(g) (support) installed by default and ubuntu does. cuz as long as you have ntfsg installed, it should automount like any other device with any filesystem, i would think...

Unfortunately it's not the case. With Edgy youcould have external ntfs formatted disks automount. But with Feisty and Gutsy (Tribe 2), even with ntfs-config and ntfs-3g installed, you don't. You have to mount it manually (huge bug!!!). It has something to do with pmount (default) and user rights (can't really tell). I hope that it will be fixed in gutsy though...

I would like to go one step further. I would like to see Kubuntu gutsy automount not just external/internal ntfs but all partitions and drives and an easy way to give write permissions to each.

Maybe I just don't understand... but I can't see why all the drives on a system wouldn't be automatically mounted. It just seems like a good idea.

I have a link to instructions on how to mount the other HDDs in my box so now I can do it.. but come on what a complicated process for something seemingly so simple.

I really want to use kubuntu but having to use konsole each time I connect my external drive is just annoying.

Here is the message I get "hal-storage-removable-mount-all-options refused uid 1000".

Is there a reason a patch couldn't fix this, why are we waiting for the Gibbon?
Also, has anyone found the cause for this yet?
