    KOffice on Install

KOffice either by default, or select KOffice or OpenOffice during installation.

    Re: KOffice on Install

I remember reading some time ago that there are plans to install koffice by default in the future (probably when koffice 2.0 is released, if it turns out to be what is expected).

There already is a move in this direction in feisty, where Kexi has replaced OOBase in the default install.

I think that KOffice should be the default too. I dislike OpenOffice, and including KOffice on Kubuntu by default would help improving it (as there would be more bug reporting, maybe a couple more developers that would join the project, etc).

In addition, settling for the smaller alternative ought to make way for other, more essential packages (?).

I agree. Koffice by default on Kubuntu. Not even a choice for OpenOffice. Kubuntu should be 100% gtk+ free IMO.
I like KDE. My only gtk apps are beryl/emerald.

Why? There are some good programs that use GTK. I use Linux because it doesn't limit my choices. You are free to use only Qt and console programs if you wish, but don't infringe on my right to use GTK programs where I deem appropriate. If I wanted vendor lock in, I'd get a Mac.

We are talking about the default Kubuntu installation. You would still be allowed to install gtk apps if you wanted to.

i'd leave this until KDE4 comes out, that's a release after gibbon...

i think there is mayor improvements in store for KOffice 2.0

Good idea about waiting until gibbon +1 for the default, but perhaps having it as an install option for gusty would be nice, first thing i do on a new install is take off OOo and put on KOffice.

                  sudo apt-get install koffice
