Everytime I burn a dvd, I have to restart my pc, or it locks up

just like the title says.. I have used gnomebaker, etc etc etc.. I have tried multiple different programs to burn dvd's and cd's... When I burn something, and it finishes, if I try to burn something else, the computer locks up, and the dvd drive just keeps spinning.. I have to do an 8 second shutdown to get it to turn off.. Then when I restart, it MAY work.. Sometimes it will do the same thing, and I have to restart, and then its fine..

Im thinking it some sort of driver error on my part.. Im not sure though.. Im pretty new to linux, but not to computers at all..

Really!? I hardly think so. The simple fact is, if no one has an answer or positive suggestion to offer, members simply aren't going to post. Your particular problem isn't one that I've seen posted in the forum before, so it appears to be unique.

I understand.. but no one is even trying to help.. haha.. no one even asked if I reinstalled the programs.. even if they do not know what the problem is, they could at least ask some probing questions to help all of us discover whats wrong..

but yeah.. I was talking to a co-worker, and he said it may be a kernal panic.. im not sure what he means.. haha... is it possible to upgrade the kernal without reinstall the whole system? Would that possibly help?

o yeah.. and this part of the forum is dead then.. you can see a post I made HHEELLAAA long ago on the same page... about 10 posts down from this.. I watched this forum for a couple of days waiting for an answer, and no one even answered the other questions on here.. the forum literally didnt move for 2+ days... my post stayed at the top.. so your telling me, that every single question on this page, no one could answer... I dont think that is right... soooo... what are some other good forums that are actually still alive

Im willing to bet that this page will stay exactly the same, except for the view count going up, for at least a day or more... its not just me, no one in here is getting anything answered...haha.. its justn ot helpful to have a forum with no one posting help in it..

            honda-tech.com
            hondaswap.com
            focusfanatics.com
            shroomery.org

^^ now THESE are forums... always alive, always moving..

Im not trying to be a dick, but its really hard for others who need help, or are posting a potential problem, to get answers here...

Re: Everytime I burn a dvd, I have to restart my pc, or it locks up

Sorry that this, as well as your previous post received no help. That still does not mean that this Forum (actually, this 'child board' of the main Forum) is dead. If you've been watching KBN (Kubuntu Forums Net), you should have noticed that much of the activity for quite some time now, has been centered around Hardy Heron (version 8.04). Feisty Fawn (7.04) is two releases back. That is not to imply that no one is using FF - quite the contrary - it's just that the focus has been on HH.

You will likely improve your chances of getting suggestions (if not an actual solution) to your problem if you will provide more information. What type of PC do you have (desktop or laptop)? Type of CPU (32-bit, 64-bit, Intel, AMD, other)? Make of motherboard (if you know)? Type of HDs, internal and external? Amount of installed RAM?

Re: Everytime I burn a dvd, I have to restart my pc, or it locks up

                np... I can do that..

                cpu: Pentium 4 HT 3.2ghz 32-bit (obviously) OC'd to 4.0ghz
                ram: Kingston ddr1 400mhz 512mb
                graphics: nvidia fx 5500 AGPx8 128mb, OC'd by 100mhz
linux version: Feisty, fully updated, compiz fusion + emerald

I can play any type of media, and it works fine.. Well, when I play video its just a tad glitchy.. not much.. but I believe I just need to eff with the codecs to get that squared away..
