Thanks to KDE for blowing my ears out twice today because it can't decide on one volume control for the whole system. Why on earth do we need about forty separate volume controls -- it's as bad as Windows! Which one is it ? The interface tells you nothing, you just have try each one in turn while your ears bleed.
I got the volume to the right level on my headphones while listening to some music with Amarok, then later I listened to an MP3 sample from a website, and Firefox opened it in Banshee, which proceeded to behave just like its namesake and play the sample at full power until my ears rang before I could get the headphones off. I mean, just have one big obvious volume control for the entire system FCS.
One volume knob. One.
