System locks when I run kdesu Konquer0r

I've been working on installing a new, larger drive in place of an old one. The old drive was NTFS. I pulled it, and installed the new one. Did FDISK, and edited fstab to unmount it so I could format it (ext3). About this point I ran into problems - if I try kdesu Konqueror or kdesu Kcontrol the system lock up . The hard drive light flickers around a bit, then turns on solid - sometimes I can start to perform an action (like log off), but it fails and locks.

I did get the new drive mounted, and I'm about to go try to activate the share.

Any ideas what I'm looking at here? Seems like it might be su?

I would first check log files:

    LinuxLogFiles
    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/LinuxLogFiles
One of the things which makes GNU/Linux a great operating system is that virtually anything, and everything happening on, and to the system may be logged in some manner. This information is invaluable to using the system in an informed manner, and should be one of the first resources used in trouble-shooting system, and application issues. The logs can tell you almost anything you need to know, so long as you have an idea where to look first.
    Before you edit, BACKUP !
