How do I install things as normal user?

I want to install some style and windows decoration as a normal user? Could that be done?

*ubuntu is smart enough to know when/if root action is required to perform an action. If you are trying to install *anything* and you are prompted for (roots) password, then the action requires root level access.

Yep, but I'm with a computer without root access, school. And want to customize it a little bit.

So I want install some stuffs from source. Software thing work oke with ./configure --prefix=$HOME -exec-prefix=$HOME

But that doesn't work for styles and windows decorations (what can be change in with kcontrol).

      ?
