Need a taskbar setting

When programs are minimized to the taskbar, they're hard to read. How do I make them more visible? Please see attachment. Thanks.

Right click on taskbar - Configure panel - click taskbar on the left - enable Custom colours - then you can change the active / inactive text colour and background.

I'm not seeing a Custom color button anywhere. Just classic, transparent, etc.

You need to upgrade to KDE 3.5.7 to get that feature. It's a checkbox that says "Use custom colors" and it's located just below the Appearance settings (the ones you mentioned).

Is KDE 3.5.7 still in the repositories? KDE Homepage / Stable Version reflects 3.5.8

It will have either, KDE 3.5.7 or KDE 3.5.8.
