Is It Time To Upgrade To 7.10?

Previous experiences with new software releases have taught me to never be among the first to upgrade to the new stuff. There will always be some bugs that get out and those eventually get resolved at the expense of those souls who upgraded first.

7.10 has been out for a few weeks now. Is it stable enough to make the switch from 7.04 to 7.10? I would make the switch now if I knew it would support my Lexmark Z1400 wireless printer (no drivers).

7.10 is very stable, in my experience for the past 5 weeks. Two bugs have affected me:

    1. Dolphin bookmarks in .kde folder -- easily fixed
    2. K3b won't burn a CD -- still awaiting a fix, but brasero works

As far as your printer goes, linuxprinting.org still shows no driver -- so you won't be using it in ANY version of Kubuntu!

Lexmark printers "generally" can be supported by an HP driver. I would search the Lexmark site for HP compatible drivers, then check for those in Linux.

Thanks for the tip on the printer driver. I'll give that a try.

Question - does Ubuntu support more printers than Kubuntu? I've been operating under the premise that the two programs are equal except one uses Gnome and the other KDE.

Ubuntu and Kubuntu, under the desktop environment, are the same. Meaning: both use the same kernel 'core'. What makes Kubuntu Kubuntu is the KDE desktop. What makes Ubuntu Ubuntu is the Gnome desktop. This is of course, a simplified answer.

So, is it possible that one desktop has an advantage over the other? Will all programs that run in Ubuntu run also in Kubuntu and vise versa?

              Yes...

Here is example. If you want to use Nautilus (file manager and graphical shell for GNOME), it depends (it will install):
              + gnome-control-center
              + libgnome2-0
              + libgnome-desktop-2
              + libgnomecanvas2-0
              + libgnomeui-0
              + libgnomevfs2-0
              + lot of Gnome packages

dibl when you use k3b to burn do you have verify selected? After upgrading to Gutsy I noticed k3b would lock for me at 50% right when verify starts. After turning verify off k3b burns fine for me.
