Question about screen placement on a dual boot

I set up a dual boot with XP Pro and Kubuntu and notice the placement of the desktop shifts between the two. Both are running 1024X768 and when I adjust one the other is to far to the left and vise versa. Anyone know a fix for this? Thanks.

I am not sure if there is a fix, can I assume you are running an Nvidia card and using the nvidia-glx drivers? I used to have this problem way back when I used to dual boot to windows ('02 or 03 wow, been that long?), and I found no cure for it. Maybe someone else has found a solution.....

Re: Question about screen placement on a dual boot

I even have the same problem between dual booting Kubuntu and Ubuntu. Never really searched hard for a fix. Luckily, my monitor has a button to click to "auto" set it up. It goes right back where it should be and stays there until the next time I boot the other OS. I don't think this has anything to do with the graphics card, because it happens even before the system boots, you can see it in the initial messages that appear on the screen when you first boot, right after you select your OS in Grub.

You could try xvidtune - video mode tuner for Xorg.

        I haven't tried it, but...

        man xvidtune:
        SYNOPSIS
        xvidtune [ -show | -prev | -next | -unlock ] [ -toolkitoption ... ]

        DESCRIPTION
Xvidtune is a client interface to the X server video mode extension
        (XFree86-VidModeExtension).

When given one of the non-toolkit options, xvidtune provides a command
line interface to either switch the video mode.

Without any options (or with only toolkit options) it presents the user
with various buttons and sliders that can be used to interactively
adjust existing video modes. It will also print the settings in a for‐
mat suitable for inclusion in an xorg.conf file.

        The available buttons are:

        Left
        Right
        Up
        Down

Adjust the video mode so that the display will be moved in
        the appropriate direction.

        Wider
        Narrower
        Shorter
        Taller
Adjust the video mode so that the display size is altered
        appropriately.

        Quit Exit the program.
        Before you edit, BACKUP !
