How Can I Change The Audio Recording Source?

Hey guys, I was just wondering if it would be possible somehow to change the recording source from mic to PCM or other input? I'm using and Audigy 2 ZS at the moment, and under windows I used to be able to switch the recording device over from mic to wave and stream direct from source over the net, is this possible in Kubuntu?

yup, I switched off everything but PCM, but still no joy. It KMix seems to give you sliders for all the inputs, but it doesn't let you select which is used as the source

Here: if i click red dots (down) -> record from that source. Green dots (up) = mute

Besides volumes controls, KMix also features LED's. The general coloring rule is:
Green: A LED dealing with playback
Red: A LED dealing with recording
Yellow: A LED dealing with special soundcard capabilities

same here, but changing those switches does not seem isolate the recording source

Hmm - what program do you use ?

In mencoder:

adevice=<value>
Name of device to capture sound from. Without such a
name capture will be disabled, even if the capture key‐
word appears in the URL. For ALSA devices use it in the
form hw=<card>.<device>. If the device name contains a
’=’, the module will use ALSA to capture, otherwise OSS.

I'm using with mencoder:

device=/dev/video0:immediatemode=0:alsa:adevice=hw.0,0

I'm just trying to stream audio via a webcam interface rather than a specific program and therefore I have no source options within the application itself. Therefore I'm trying to find a way of setting the primary recording source to PCM to bypass the need for net settings.
