    Konqueror didn't like me changing icons

    Hello all once again,

    Here is my problem:
    I recently installed "human icon theme" on my system (through Adept) and then applied the theme from System Settings--> Appearance--> Icons. It went fine until then.

    Then I became a bit more adventurous > I clicked on the "advanced" tab in the 'Icons' section and tried to change the size for "Desktop/file browse" from existing "48" to "40". I guess, Konqueror didn't like that and crashed.
    Now, whenever I try to browse file in konqueror, first, it gobbles all my RAM and Swap Memory (the whole system runs extremely slow because of that) and then crashes. Konqueror is still able to open web sites properly.

    If I launch it from Konsole, following error message is shown:
    ASSERT: "!icon.isEmpty()" in /build/buildd/kdebase-3.5.6/./libkonq/konq_pixmapprovider.cc (81)
    I tried changing the icon theme and the size to default values, but even that doesn't work
    I use Konqueror mostly for file browsing, so these are difficult times without it working properly.

      Quessing:
      When Konqueror crashed, it damaged setting files in the /home/USER/.kde/share/config/.

      Try to rename: konquerorrc (and (?) konq_history, konqiconviewrc, konqlistviewrc, konqsidebartng.rc). Restart. Any progress ?

      Alternatives to the Konqueror (file managers):
      Dolphin - file manager for KDE focusing on usability.
      Krusader - twin-panel (commander-style) file manager for KDE (and other desktops).
      Before you edit, BACKUP !

        looks like critical bug to me
        anyone tried to reproduce? (I can't risk screwing KDE at the moment)

          Success!!! Had to rename all the konq* files in /home/user/.kde/share/config. I restarted the computer only after renaming 'konquerorrc' to 'konquerorrc.old' first. But that solved only the icon problem. It was only after I renamed all the files starting with 'konq', that the konqueror started working properly.

          Had tried Dolphin on a friend's pc, but didn't like it as much as konqueror. Thanks for the suggestion though :P

          CRITICAL BUG? Should I report it at Launchpad? Especially now that a Gutsy is already out?

            Reset size to default --> in "$HOME/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals file" under "[DesktopIcons]":
            Size=48

              Konqueror started working properly after renaming the files as suggested by Rog131, so I really don't want to mess around with those config files again. Already had quite a bad misadventure Thanks for the suggestion though. . However, one thing I noticed in the "kdeglobals" files that you mentioned, is that it doesn't have any line for "Size" under the "DesktopIcons" section. Did you mean adding the line to the file under that section?

                that's because you use default value (48), with any other value the "Size=" would be there, but Size=48 would also use the size 48 (default) for desktop icons, I'm pretty sure.
                btw - are you sure you changed human icons to "40"? here the icons settings won't give me such size.

                  Yes, it used to show values in multiples of 4. However, after this mishap, there are no values in the drop-down box as you can see from the image below. Also, there are no previews of the icons below that (ie, under "Default", "Active" and "Inactive")

                    I have also come across this problem last night. Luckily I located this thread and used the solution of deleting all konq history and the other konq files. Here is a screenshot of what my icons looked like broken. Its quite funny
