    Can't compile AMSN svn

I have been trying to compile the AMSN svn version but I can't manage to do it.
I have search in google the error the console gives me but everyone says that by installing the build-essential package everything works (I already have the build-essential on it's newest version) or to use apt (which is no answer to my problem cause I have never managed to compile anything not only AMSN, I need to be able to do so if I wish to).
I'm new to linux so every help would be appreciated:

    My Problem:
checking for prefix by checking for wish... /usr/bin/wish
    checking for gcc... gcc
checking for C compiler default output file name... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
    See `config.log' for more details.
    Useful info?

    in a terminal window type:

    sudo apt-get check

and paste the output here. This should tell us about broken dependencies, if they exist.

Thanks for your reply, here it is what you asked:
      ~$ sudo apt-get check

        Re: Can't compile AMSN svn

        ok no issues there.

I would like comment from others on whether there could be an issue with having two versions of base package installed?

          Re: Can't compile AMSN svn

you mean having two amsn? I only have one installed (the svn, installed with a DEB file, but it gives problems with a module and says i need to compile it myself)

            Re: Can't compile AMSN svn

No I meant that you seem to have gcc-4.1-base AND the older gcc-3.3-base installed and I was wondering whether anyone knew if this would cause any problems.

              Re: Can't compile AMSN svn

              Thank you! You were right!
I removed the package of the older one, reinstalled the newer one and downloaded from the ubuntu forums a script to install and compile AMsn and everything works fine now.
Thank you very much for your help.

              Kinfule.
