Adept Manager problem

Adept was working fine, until today. I'm not sure what was downloaded, or installed, or enabled, in order to display this notification, after logging into Adept:

"You will not be able to change your system settings in any way (install, remove or upgrade software) because another process is using the packaging system database (probably some Adept application or apt-get or aptitude) Please close the other application before using this one."
I have no idea which application, or why is supposed to be running.

Could someone please explain what to do?

when you are finished install synaptic and use that.
