    Annoying auto-backup thing

As soon as I modify something and save it (for example a text file), kubuntu will make me a backup file in the same folder. How can I turn this off?

Why would you want to? It's a safeguard in the event that
    1) you have a loss of power and your PC shuts down before you can save changes, and
    2) allows you to go back to the 'previous' version should you want to.
Windows no longer obstructs my view.
Using Kubuntu Linux since March 23, 2007.

      1. Well that has never happend to me in my entire life.
      2. Id like to handle backups manually myself. Its just annoying having duplicates of everything. Should atleast be hidden by default. Can configure that?

Really? You must have never experienced a power failure?

I take it you're using Kate.
In Kate: Settings > Configure Kate > Open/Save > Uncheck "Local files".

But, like Snowhog says, it's in case you do something and want the older version back. It's really a good idea to keep it.

In case you just want to make backups 'hidden':
              Settings > Configure Kate > Open/Save > Backup on Save > add a . (dot) to 'Prefix:'
