I have searcher the entire forum and followed their instuctions, and I still cant get azureus to work. use alternative compiled version gcj or something.

You shouldn't have to compile anything for it. Did you try removing it and re-installing? Make sure you have all the dependencies. I find that you need to google when an app isn't working properly and there is often some other package needed but it's not very intuitive or obvious.
I tried Automatix a year ago in Ubuntu and it was an ultimate failure. It just didn't work although it looks really appealing on the website.
Is it updated and revised or something?
I would try Azureus again. It works for me but I think the speed is very slow and I'm not sure if it's the configuration or just my connection. It seems to be a bit slower than the version I have in Windoze.

I would replace azureus by anything, as long as it allows me to do a few things:
- have a share ration, seed untill 1.5:1 or any other ratio
- have the ability to select what you want to dl or not, and what you want to dl first
