Desktop is scrambled and garbled

Hello. I turned on my laptop yesterday and the screen is half "scrambled/garbled"
The mouse pointer looks like a box with lines...
But if I happen to catch something (such as the system folder, etc) it will open it, but again the window is all "scrambled/garbled".
Anyone experience this?
Just when I was starting to enjoy NOT using XP!!!!

Did you modify your video hardware or your video settings recently?
