Can you fill in the cracks on an existing install

I used gparted to reduce the size of my hda1 Kubuntu install, and now I have problems with the install. It's locking up and some programs won't launch, so something got screwed up. Is it possible to take my live cd disk and run it over my existing install to fill in the cracks as it were? Thanks.

Sounds like you're lucky to be able to boot...
Providing there's still space left on your disk/partition I see no reason why you should not attempt to re-install the failing applications.
This link gives some insight in repairs using the apt system:

Just to rule out the obvious (assuming that you're using EXT3): did you conduct an in-depth file system check ...?
