    black screen on boot

Kubuntu was running no probs at all last night, I switched off, and went to bed.

When I switched on this morning, I got the pop of my speakers when the sound card was initialised and all the usual red light flashes, but no log in screen showed. I thought that it was likely the xorg getting nerfed so I went into recovery, replaced the xorg.conf with a backup I know works and then went to start kde... black screen and back to prompt... I tried again and it told me kde was running... so I rebooted thinking it was just a glitch and ended up just coming to a black screen again...

    Any ideas?

    At the prompt try:

    startx

    See what happens. or kdm
    ~$sudo make me a sandwich

To switch to a terminal, hit Ctrl+Alt+F1. Then do "startx".
      For external use only.
