How to autostart kmail minimized

My Kubuntu Feisty automatically starts at logon Kmail, may be Kontact.
I want to understand where is the script that start Kmail at logon.
And I want to modify it to have Kmail autostart minimized.
Anybody know how to solve ?

It is a great help, but in my case I was not able to solve.
The fact is that if I logout from KDE while Kontact is open, at next login I will have Kontact/Kmail that starts automatically and maximized.
What I want to do is to start Kontact/Kmail but minimized, but I don't know where I can change this setting !

I guess it's because you use last session, when you restart your system. You should start with an empty session, which you can change in the session manager. Then you could make a link to application in the KDE autostart folder :/home/user/.kde/Autostart

This is a workaround I know. It's just a suggestion.

Also, if you click on the little icon in the extreme top left of any window, then go to Configure Window Behavior > Window-Specific Settings, you can set all kind of things in there. You'll be particularly interested in the Geometry tab when creating an entry for KMail.

Not so in KMail (at least, in the running application that's running on my PC right now).

You're probably not using KWin as your window decorator, then.

True. I'm running Beryl as my window manager. But how would that change the running KDE applications?

The window manager handles the drawing of the application windows (including minimizing and resizing). With kwin, you can set the default geometrics (and a bunch of other settings) for individual windows/applications easily in the window menu's window-specific settings (clicking on app icon or right-clicking the titlebar)

Haven't explored compiz/beryl thoroughly enough to tell whether you can do similar things in compiz (You could explore "Window Rules" under "Window Management" in compiz settings, though at first glance it doesn't include "start minimized")

What's so difficult about autostarting Kmail?

Open file manager

Split window (it makes this a whole lot easier)

In the left pane either go up a few levels (Konqueror) or click on "root" (Dolphin) to see the usr folder.

In the right pane select "Show hidden files" from the View drop down menu (either FM), you should now be able to see the KDE folder in your home folder.

Open the usr folder and sub folder "bin". Open "bin"

Open the KDE folder and select sub folder "autostart" Open "autostart"

Scroll through the bin folder until you find the Kmail exe

Left click on the icon and drag it into the autostart folder

From the dialogue that pops up choose "copy to"

Viola!

Kmail also has a systray icon that can be activated by clicking on the Settings menu, choosing "configure Kmail", clicking on the "appearance" icon in the side bar, then the system tray tab and then ticking the box next to "Enable system tray icon". Then you get the choice of having it always in view or only popping up when mail arrives. Cool, eh?

Yes, autostarting KMail is easy.
Starting it minimized is not.
