    Kubuntu Screensaver

    My Kubuntu does not activate the screensaver anymore.
    Why?

    "My car won't start anymore. Why?"

    Sorry buddy, nobody will be able to answer either of those questions without some additional information.

    Did you confirm that your screen saver is still enabled? (Right-click on Desktop -> "Configure Desktop" -> "Screen Saver" -> "Settings" -> "{x} Start automatically After 1 min", e.g.)

    Did you try another screen saver?

    Can you start a screen saver by clicking on "Test"?

      This might help.
      K Menu -> System Settings -> Monitor & Display -> Power Saving
      Make sure Power Saving is enabled.

        Ok. Sorry. The screensaver is enabled, power saver mode is on, when I click test it works, and other screensavers do not activate on their own. Also the screensaver does not work with power saver mode off either. Thanks.

          Sometimes, subtle vibrations of the desk can be picked up by the mouse. Any movement by the mouse, however small, would reset your inactivity time, of course. You may want to try turning your mouse upside down (i.e., will be ball or optical reader up) for a while to see if the screen saver engages.

          Other than that, you may have a running process that suggests to the desktop that you are not inactive. Try starting a new session (K -> System Sesstings -> Advanced -> Session Manager -> Start with an empty session) and let the system run without any interaction or running applications.

              I'm running Kubuntu 7.10 on an Intel DG965RY mboard. I did re-enable power saving when the screen saver first went AWOL and it came back for 1 session. The next time I booted it was gone again. I use a Logitec optical trackman marble so no jitter.
              The original reason I disabled the power saving was the screen or vid card did not come back from a power save condition. BTW the power save does not kick in either any more. I had recently installed Karamba. I'm trying removing it.
