    CS Source Issues in Wine

Ive gotten Steam to open and download games fine. The issue I'm having occurs when I dbl click on CS Source, I close the Steam window per many guides instructions. The window opens and I see the CS logo and it says Loading just like normal. Then the screen either goes black and nothing happens or after the resolution changes I see my desktop zoomed in and I have to restart kde to get past it. Anyone run into this before? Attached is the output from Konsole I copied....

Re: CS Source Issues in Wine

So per OOD's recommendation in #winehq I installed fglrx following the instructions here -> https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...18997868540b-2 . I now get the following for fglrxinfo:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
        display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
        OpenGL version string: 1.4 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.2)
When I run Steam, it still opens fine, I see the CS logo and Loading screen when I Launch that, the resolution changes, I see it again, and then I'm back to my desktop with a changed res. This was pulled out of Konsole:

        udo wine Steam.exe

          1. This:
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
          2. Never ever run Wine with sudo.

Re: CS Source Issues in Wine

            Without sudo I get:

Steam.exe (main exception): Cannot open blob archive file: CMultiFieldBlob(mem-mapped file): Failed to open existing file, Win32 Error 5 "Access Denied"
So whats the deal with the missing on display error? Is that basically saying there's no drivers registered? I didn't get that error until after running through the fglrx howto...

So it was recommened to me in #winehq that I reinstall wine because of the usage of sudo. I've done that and it's back up and running again, same issue with CS, when I open CS the resolution changes I see the loading screen then I'm back to the desktop with an altered res...

Should I just pay for CrossOver and have them figure it out?

                  Can if you want to.

Which graphics drivers (if any) do you have installed, and do you know if they are working?

Re: CS Source Issues in Wine

I have an ATI Radeon 9600. I followed the instructions here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Bi...18997868540b-2. Everything seemed to go just fine, saw the ATI installer info and everything no issues. The output now of fglrxinfo is:
                    :~$ fglrxinfo
Xlib: extension "XFree86-DRI" missing on display ":0.0".
                    display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
                    OpenGL version string: 1.4 (1.5 Mesa 6.5.2)
Which I imagine is not good since that first line shows up when I run Steam and CS....

SheeEttin: I saw the fglrx script on your site, could that be of use to me or am I in too deep already from following that doc?

Re: CS Source Issues in Wine

No. You aren't using the fglrx driver.
So, I'd suggest removing it however you installed it. Try searching for "fglrx" in Adept, and see if any of those need to be removed.

After that, yes, you can use my script. There's very little that can go wrong, since it's almost completely automated. All you need to do is tell it where you want to get the driver from.

At the moment, it looks like the driver in the repos is 8.38.4, while the current ATI release is 8.40.4. You probably want the current version, so use the -m option.

                        OpenGL version string: 2.0.6747 (8.40.4)
Using the guide here: http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide I was able to get it working!!! Noticeable improvement in game functionality like Neverball... having tried CS yet...

Re: CS Source Issues in Wine

Its weird. I open Steam (it just opens CS faster than before now), dbl click on CS, close the Steam window...the CS logo shows up, I see Loading in the bottom right hand, resolution changes, then I see my Desktop zoomed in, and just Steam is left running, no CS. This has to have happened before?

Are there not any log files that would show whats happening?
