K3b fails verify of data DVDs

    Hello,
I often need to backup files to DVD-R. I tried using K3b, starting a "Data DVD" project. It all seems to work fine, but the verify always fails with "written data in track 1 differs from original". If I try to read and use the DVDs, they look OK - I cannot find any obvious problem. But of course I feel nervous to delete the original files from the HD, to free up some space, until I'm sure that the files are properly backed up.
Of course the burner is good and compatible with the media I'm using - I can burn under Windows, with Nero, without any problem.

    Thanks
    Cristian

I might add that I just tried checking the md5 sum for the files in the DVD, and those in the HD; the sums are exactly the same. Thus it seems that the DVD has actually been burnt OK. But then why do I get the verify error?!?

UP - Am I the only one who's having this problem? I searched in the forums and couldn't find anything. And this is a fresh installation of Kubuntu, so I don't think I've messed it up badly (yet )...

You might want to try burning one with gnomebaker or brasero, just for comparison purposes. It would be nice to know if it is a K3b issue, or a "your DVD drive" issue.

Does it give you a readable media in the end?

I will try one of the other apps (which I don't have installed at the moment, are they KDE apps or gnome?)
It looks like the media I get is reliable, though I can't be perfectly sure it's OK bit-by-bit. But if I always get false positives, where's the point of verifying? Even though the discs are always OK, if once in a while I get a really bad DVD, how can I tell?

            Thanks

I tried installing Brasero. I'm not sure I can find the "verify" option though - I found a "perform file integrity check", but while doing that, only the DVD light was on, the HD light was off - so it was reading only from DVD, and not comparing with the original HD files. Is the integrity check just a "readability check", without the byte-by-byte matching test?
At the end of the test, it said "There are no corrupted files on the disc", and not something like "The files on the disc match the files on the HD". This still makes me not confident enough to delete the originals from HD...
