    It's Happening again! - Sluggish behaviour

    Just for a recap, i had posted before saying how my Linux had started working very sluggishly, and as i type this, its taking about a second for the words to appear..
    Well, i wasn't sure about the reason why it was happening..but i think i've figured out what it is. I'd installed this application called 'NTFS configuration tool' from the Ubuntu forums, to be able to write files onto my NTFS (windows) drives.

    The first time the computer became sluggish, i'd run the tool..but for some reason, at reboot it went back to normal and my computer was at optimum speed again. However, i used the app again today and instantly, my computers started lagging!

    I want to know;

    1. How i can uninstall the application, and undo the changes too ( I don't remember what i'd installed; i'd just copy pasted code from the fiesty forum onto my command line)

    2. An application that can help me write on the ntfs partitions.

    Help!

    Update;

    yep, i think it's that.

    on running 'top' command, the 'mount.ntgs-3g' was taking up computer usage (0.3% to about 10% at times) is this normal?

      Hmmmmm -- no, that's very abnormal, as far as I know. I installed ntfs-3g and the configuration utility, just to do some NTFS mounting experiments with a thumb drive. I don't use it now, but I did not remove it and have never observed any slowdown of my system.

      If you installed it via Adept Manager or Synaptic, just open whichever you use, and mark the package for removal. Click "apply" and it will be gone.

      As an afterthought, you could first open KSysguard, and kill the ntfs-3g process, just to be sure that you observe the expected recovery of system performance.

        As i said, installed it through the command line..i mean i sopy pasted the script.

        I killed the applications, and my speed is back to normal, so i'm sure that it was slowing down my computer.

        What code do i use to uninstall? and how do i know what it's called? i tried googling, and still am but to no effect, i don't know..maybe i'm not using the right key words.

          I'm not at my Kubuntu system, at the moment, but I think the name of the package is "ntfs-3g", and it is in the repositories. Even if you installed it at the CLI, it should show up as an installed package in Adept Manager. Just open KMenu>System>Adept Package Manager (give it your password), then scroll down to the "n"s and see if it appears there with the box filled in that indicates it is installed. If so, click the box to "mark" it for removal, then click "Apply" on the top menu bar, and it will be removed.

            I tried adept before posting this thread..it says something else is using the resources or whatever, but i can't see anything that's using it..i guess it'll be easy if i just reboot, but i'm feeling lazy right now.

            Just for future reference, how do you uninstall files on the CLI?

              To fix Adept, in the console run the following, one at a time:

              Code:
              sudo dpkg-configure -a
              sudo apt-get update
              sudo apt-get install
              Upon finishing, the Adept Manager should be happy to run for you.

              You can review the apt-get commands by entering
              Code:
              man apt-get
              Basically, if you know the name of the package that you want, you simply
              Code:
              sudo apt-get install my_package

                  i don't know what the hell is happening with my computer today.,.

                  I rebooted. Now It still shows the same 'can't access because someone else is already accessing it' command, then it opens anyway. Now the apply changes button's not active.

                  what?
