Beryl on Kubuntu works but is slow

    Hi All,

I have installed beryl successfully after many failed attempts on a clean-install of Kubuntu 7.04. I've installed the latest drivers from Nvidia, rather than using the restricted ubuntu nvidia drivers and that seemed to do the trick.

However, things are a tad slow to respond. For example, as I type this message, the chars appear maybe 1/4 second after I type them. Usually, it's instantaneous. Another example is when I click on the K menu, the delay is typically 3-5 seconds before the menu appears.

The machine is a brand new Pentium 4 2.8GHz with an Nvidia 8400 256MB GS graphics card. 1GB Ram.

The system load is nominal, at around 0.1 avg load.

So, why the slowness since Beryl was installed? Surely it's not meant to be like this.

Many thanks in advance to all.

    Regards,

    Ali

Beryl is a resource hog (along with xorg), but you have a fast CPU so it should not do this. It almost sounds like the xorg process has a very low priority among other processes (not a normal configuration for a desktop). Can you learn anything by running
    Code:
    top
and watching the resources that way?

Hi - my load is normal, no resources are hogging the system, I checked this with top before I made the post.

      Thanks
