    Problem trying to install aptitude

Downloaded a deb of Aptitude and tried installing it using Kpackage and Konsole. Keep getting the same result:

    Unpacking replacement aptitude ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of aptitude:
    aptitude depends on libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11; however:
    Package libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11 is not installed.
    dpkg: error processing aptitude (--install):
    dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
    Errors were encountered while processing:
    aptitude

When I trying installing libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11, I get this:

Package libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package libapt-pkg-libc6.3-6-3.11 has no installation candidate

How to I fix this? Thanks.

Re: Problem trying to install aptitude

Aptitude is in the repo's and should be already installed. If not, you can install it using adept or synaptic or by typing, in a console, sudo apt-get install aptitude.

Hope this helps and hope I understood your problem.

    Cheers

Lowey, that's exactly what I tried if you read the post.

My guess would be either from:
          http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/s...words=aptitude
          or
          http://packages.debian.org/testing/admin/aptitude
Windows no longer obstructs my view.

I did read your post. Again, aptitude should be installed etc etc etc.

Why would you try to install it from a .deb?

Because when I try using Adept of Kpackage, it says it's "broken" and can't install it. I saved a bunch of .deb files from my previous Mepis install. They all installed without a problem except aptitude. Thanks.

Which may or may not fit into a Kubuntu install ...

From my point of view, you'd either forget about Aptitude (which, to put that straight, on my systems is not even installed as I'm using APT/DPKG directly or via Synaptic) - or resolve the broken dependencies by hand (if possible) ...
