Konqueror keeps crashing and causing a signal 11

This only occurs when I type a string of text into the search box, to narrow the contents of a folder. If I keep starting up Konqueror and trying again, it will eventually cooperate and let me do my search. Here's the data from the Backtrace tab:

I'd suggest an uninstall and reinstall. There's not much you can do to fix a segfault.

What's interesting is that it's only causing the error when I search for files in a specific folder of an external hard drive. I don't mind re-installing Kubuntu, since I keep almost all of my data on external HDs (And especially since it only takes about 20 minutes or so to do with this computer), but if it's a problem with my external hard drive, then I guess I need to try something else.

Given that the problem is with an external HD, does that change my solution, or do I still need to do a reinstall of the OS?

Do you have a livecd to try this external HD and see if the problem persists?
If it indeed takes only 20mins to reinstall everything, you may save time and do it. Trying to fix the problem would probably consume more time. It's hard to spot the cause.

The LiveCD worked just fine, but I decided to boot into the OS on a whim. The problem isn't happening anymore. If it helps, I was running the memtest with the LiveCD (It came back clean, if it matters) before I tried the LiveCD again. I think I'm going to play around with some other stuff I've been wanting to try before doing the reinstall. I've got my 3 gigs or so of stuff backed up, and I've been saving the names of all the programs I've installed and decided to keep. So, starting over won't be all that bad. I have a feeling that I might be able to get away with not reinstalling, but I'll just opt for playing it safe. Thanks for the help, guys.

It's funny, because I was trying to search in an ebooks folder for "Windows," and it was causing the SIGSERV error. Any other search string, in any other folder didn't cause me this problem.

Bad coding, I guess. That particular string may have caused something to go wrong.

Makes me wonder if it is bad coding or if the crash is intentional. ;-)

Ok, I reinstalled. Now I get the same error when I use the store locator at bestbuy.com. Could this possibly be a hardware issue?

Could be. You should also look up what a segfault is, as that's what you're getting.
