    Sorting Files

Ive always hated the way KDE sorts its files. I dont know if this is happening in Gnome either but it is really annoying and makes it ultra-hard to watch anime and manga. Heres what i mean:

Instead of starting off with 1 and then going in numerical order it starts with 10,11,12 and then 1. Is there a fix for this?

    Re: Sorting Files

what you want is "numeric sort vs alphanumeric sort".
    file names are alphanumeric.
10 will always come before 2.
and it's not only just kde.
    it's computers
i know, i know, in windoze...

i don't know whether or not there's an option in some file manager that does that.

but if you change 1 into 01, 2 into 02, then it'll be fixed...for good.

and while you're at it, it'd suggest to get into the habit of avoiding leaving blanks in filenames.
replacing blanks with an underscore could also be a good idea.

    gnu/linux is not windoze

      Re: Sorting Files

If you don't like going through and renaming files one by one, there's a nice little tool called rename(1) which takes a Perl regular expression and checks it against a given list of filenames.
      For external use only.

There is also gwenrename (1.0.2-0ubuntu1) [universe]
        Batch renamer tool for KDE

GwenRename is a series renamer tool. It was created as an external tool for GwenView, the image viewer for KDE, but can also be used from Konqueror. As that, the files to be renamed are passed to it as command line parameters, and there is no other way to load files into it. The main goal is to have a batch renaming tool that's easy and light enough for every day use. If you are looking for a more compound and featured renaming tool, you should have a look at Dominik Seichter's "KRename".
