Should have something to do with installation. The softwares can't "overclock" burners, just like you can't make your HD spin faster. It queries the recorder for all of its supported speeds and see what is its fastest and what is the media's fastest, then the burn will be carried out at the lowest speed of the two. If your burner can record at 24x, but your media is 20x, the fastest speed for this disc will be 20x.
This is not the first time I see K3B killing stuff, it's almost trial and error while one figures it out, that's why a RW media is helpful.
