    Knetworkmanager or Kwlan Problem

    Dudes, I am having a problem with my wireless chip. I bought one of those Inspiron e1505 that Dell was selling, and the wireless network has been working fine up until yesterday. Right Now, the wireless network does not want to work. Every time I try to scan for new networks is not allowing me to. I do not how to start to look for the problem. I tried uninstalling knetworkmanager and installing it back. This did not work. And then I uninstall the knetworkmanager and install Kwlan, and it is still not working.

    Can somebody please guide me?

    Please, somebody help me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Re: Knetworkmanager or Kwlan Problem

    Start by going to a console and executing the following two commands:

    ifconfig
    iwconfig

    then post the results.

      Here is the first command "ifconfig". I am using a wire internet

      eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:19:B9:7D:82:F4
      inet addr:192.168.1.95 Bcast:255.255.255.255 Mask:255.255.255.0
      inet6 addr: fe80::219:b9ff:fe7d:82f4/64 Scope:Link
      UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
      RX packets:1003 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
      TX packets:1042 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
      collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
      RX bytes:1100690 (1.0 MiB) TX bytes:214618 (209.5 KiB)
      Interrupt:22

      lo Link encap:Local Loopback
      inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
      inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
      UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
      RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
      TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
      collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
      RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

      Here is the second command "iwconfig"

      lo no wireless extensions.

      eth0 no wireless extensions.

      What I do not understand is why was it working before and not now. What I can come up with is the fact that the computer was working with ndiswrapper or something like that, and for some reason it crashed.

        Re: Knetworkmanager or Kwlan Problem

        As I suspected, this is a Broadcom-based NIC. Check this out:

        http://pervasivecomputing.net/ubuntu...inspiron_e1505

        If the kernel module was not blacklisted as the directions described, that may be the problem. If you are still having problems after completing these steps, post again.

          Re: Knetworkmanager or Kwlan Problem

          One thing that I have noticed is the fact that when I type the command sudo rmmod bcm43xx the terminal response is: ERROR: Module bcm43xx does not exist in /proc/modules. Sorry to bother you again but I am still having problem. I have done every single step fine but the knetworkmanager software does not want to read my micro chip for my wireless. What would be the next step?

          Here is the first command ifconfig

            Re: Knetworkmanager or Kwlan Problem

            Dude, Thank you for the website. I was trying to make it work, I went back a few times and I thought the problem was the directions. I was wrong. I decided to go ahead and read the file which is the bmcwl5.inf and just for the fun of it just read it. I realized that there was a section that said that my wireless card was not working and that what I needed to press was function F2. when I did that it did work. Thanks for your directions. Kudos to you,
