followed those instructions but all the info for 7.04 did is install synaptic manager, so i followed the instructions for edgy and that came up? I just ignored it and moved on, dont know if it was a good or a bad thing to do but i did it.

            Re: fglrx ATI x1600 HELP

That is the famous "wacom drivers" error message, which is actually harmless and not related to your video issues. To make it go away, you must comment out (insert "#" ahead of) the lines in xorg.conf that refer to tablet PC input devices. An example is shown here:

            http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/inde...opic=3081644.0

Don't forget the 3 lines in "ServerLayout" as well as the 3 stanzas that have the # marks leading.

Whenever i get into kate from the console and the xorg.conf opens it is empty, is it supposed to be because in the how to it says add these three lines at the end of the file, there is no end of file the file is blank, i didnt know what to do so ima wait on this step.

              Thnx

Huh? In the console, you enter
                Code:
                kdesu kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf
and, after you enter your password, kate should open and you should be looking at your current xorg.conf file. The first thing you should do it "save as" and give it a backup name like "xorg.conf_27JULbak". Then you can make your needed edits, and again "save as" and this time it is "xorg.conf" and you can exit kate. Then, to observe the effects of your editing, you need to restart the x server which you can do by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Backspace.

Or did I miss something? :P

what im sayin is that my current xorg.conf is completely blank, there is nothing in it, and i ran the ati config so it should have something in it right?

And i tried to download the envy tool but it just opens in kate i dont know how to change the settings in konqueror to save as? any help with that cuz imm not going to do it manually unless this envy wont work!

                    Re: fglrx ATI x1600 HELP

Hmmmmmmmmmm -- AFAIK, the x server won't even run if there's truly no xorg.conf file -- if you have a GUI, the x server is running, and if it is running, it must be configured, however badly. I don't know -- I think you've stumped me on this one! Maybe Kate is showing white text on a white background or something ....

Anyway, let's pretend there really is an xorg.conf file lurking around your system somewhere, and proceed with using Envy to install your ATI driver.

So, you go to this page of Alberto Milone's web site, and download the file named "envy_0.9.6-0ubuntu2_all.deb" that is about halfway down the page. You save it on your desktop, then you right-click on it, choose "KPackage Menu>Install" and install it on your system. Now the Envy icon will appear in your System menu, and you click it to run it. Envy will read your system and ATI card and install an appropriate driver for it, and invite you to restart your x server, which you should say "YES" to.

If the GUI version of Envy has some trouble, you can open a konsole window and enter
                    Code:
                    sudo envy -t
and it will run in text mode.

                    Good luck with it!

                        Feisty runs without xorg.conf:

                        I'm running without xorg.conf!
                        http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2428898
When no xorg.conf file can be found in the default location(s), X loads a builtin configuration file.

Running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg will generate the same configuration file as was generated during install.

Running dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg will automate the process a great deal (if not altogether).
                        And from Xorg release 7.2
                        http://www.x.org/wiki/Releases/7.2?a...angesForX11R73
Autoconfiguration: The X server can now start without an xorg.conf file in most cases.
