Flash for Linux

Hi there,

Does anyone have experience with this s/w ? I don't know how to install it on Ubuntu, I followed the instruction but failed on 'make', does anyone know of a deb package ?

Depends on what you want. If it's just a player, open up Adept and search for "klash", if you want a browser plugin, see "libflash-mozplugin", "mozilla-plugin-gnash", or "konqueror-plugin-gnash", depending on preference and/or browser of choice.

It is the only known editing tool for Linux like the Adobe one.

Ah, flash editing. Sorry, no, I don't know of any. I take it you've found one.

So, when you do "make", what does it say?

I need Flash (mx2004) for my web development and design work so I'll give you my 2c's.

F4L is pretty rudimentary and not very powerful (unfortunately) and a pain to install.

If you have an existing winxp (or other) installation and need flash as I do for webdesign and webappdesign follow these guidelines:

Then install the new vmware-player 2.0 from vmware from here:
http://www.vmware.com/products/player/

It is easy to install and makes your guest win fly.

Once you have all that (takes about 30min.) then you can setup samba to share your win files with your guest win vm machine.

Unfortunately IMHO there is no really valid alternative for using flash in linux. Vmbox crashes and is slow. Forget wine.

If you need help I'll gladly walk you through it.

make: *** No rule to make target `/usr/share/qt3/mkspecs/default/qmake.conf', needed by `Makefile'. Stop.

If you want to continue with F4L (Fintan makes a good point), then you probably need to install one or more Qt3 dev packages.

I want to create simple animation for web use, but I don't have any m$ tools on hand and will not spend on that, this is a Linux forum so please give me advice on Linux if any, I know it is hard.

Well xara as far as I know know you can export into swf format. That might be able to help. Otherwise get yourself aquanted with:

I am fully aware that this is a linux forum and
I have been looking for a replacement for flash in linux for over six years. Ask adobe :P

Xara is great I don't know that, I only know Openoffice can export to flash but no animation, I will try thanks.

I find the windows version of Xara Xtreme demo does have export to Flash option....

If the animation is simple as you state, why don't you go with .gif? The Gimp + GAP can give you pretty decent results.
