KPilot crashes on address conduit, cannot do restore

I'm having two problems with KPilot, both of which are show-stoppers. The Palm device in question is a Sony Clie NX70, which has worked fine for me in the past.

    I'm using Kubuntu Feisty, KPilot 4.9.1, pilot-link 0.12.2, KDE 3.5.7.

    The problems are these:

    1. When I attempt to perform a regular sync, kpilotDaemon apparently crashes when it gets to the address book conduit:

    Code:
14:56:41 KPilot 4.9.1 (rabid dolphin) HotSync starting...

14:56:41 Using encoding ISO 8859-15 on the handheld.
    14:56:43 [File Installer]
    14:56:43 No Files to install
    14:56:43 [Internal Editors]
    14:56:43 Databases with changed records:
    14:56:43 Databases with changed flags:
    14:56:43 Databases with changed AppBlock:
    14:56:43 [Conduit knotes-conduit]
    14:56:43 Added 26 new memos.
    14:56:43 No change to KNotes.
    14:56:44 [Conduit notepad-conduit]
    14:56:44 0 notepads saved
    14:56:44 [Conduit time_conduit]
14:56:44 Setting the clock on the handheld
    14:56:44 [Conduit vcal-conduit]
14:56:44 Could not open the calendar databases.
14:56:44 The conduit vcal-conduit could not be executed.
    14:56:44 [Conduit memofile-conduit]
    14:56:44 Syncing with /home/richard/MyMemos.
    14:56:44 Doing regular sync...
    14:56:45 [Conduit abbrowser_conduit]
/var/log/messages contains nothing more useful than that. If I disable the address book conduit in KPilot, then I can do the sync normally; unfortunately, then my address book is not synced up, which kind of defeats the purpose.

    2. When I attempt to do a restore after a hard reset on my Clie, none of my files are restored. Instead, I get this message for every single file:

    Code:
    15:02:42 File '/home/richard/.kde/share/apps/kpilot/DBBackup/Richard S. Crawford/(filename)' cannot be read.
This is really frustrating. Typically I can get my Clie working and talking normally to Kubuntu for a couple of weeks at a time, and then a problem like this crops up which prevents me from being able to sync for months at a time.

    Anyone have any ideas?

I don't know about the first, but the second:
What does "ls -Al '/home/richard/.kde/share/apps/kpilot/DBBackup/Richard S. Crawford'" say? (If there're a lot of files and the first bit is the same for all, a snippet will be fine.)
    For external use only.

When this first came up, the first thing I did was chmod all the files to 777, and double check their ownership. So:

      Code:
      -rwxrwxrwx 1 richard richard 80 2006-11-26 21:45 AcroWiki_HLHW_appl_a68k.prc*

      -rwxrwxrwx 1 richard richard 80 2007-06-01 15:29 Address Book_addr_appl_a68k.prc*

        Did this ever get resolved?

I got a new Centro smartphone, and swapped the initial one out today because of a dead pixel. Now I'm trying to restore my data, and Kpilot is barfing the "cannot read file" error at me.

        ACK.

On Edit: I guess I should be more careful, as the problem I'm having is in Kubuntu Gutsy. However, it's identical to the problem underpope initially reported. The Address sync crash I can work around (try, try again), but this lack of restore function seriously blows.
