not sure why this icon is on my desktop

i have this hard drive icon on my kubuntu desktop, it seems to be the root folder, not show how it happened, but I dont really want the icon on my desktop and it doesnt let me remove it as it is my root icon nor does it let me rename it. I think the short cut to my root folder happened on accident when i had trackpoint problems on my thinkpad that I later corrected. i just want to remove it since I want an icon less desktop

Yep. That's exactly what it is.
You can turn it off by right-clicking on the desktop > Configure Desktop > Behavior > Device Icons. Since you want icon-less, I'd just uncheck "Show device icons".
