    N.B. repositories, uncomment?

I am a very novice linux user, but just got my broadcom wireless working on my dv6000z hp laptop(AMD) using Ndiswrapper. PUMPED about that.

Should I uncomment these repos in your opinion....Thanks for your input.

    ## Uncomment the following two lines to add software from the 'backports'
    ## repository.
    ## N.B. software from this repository may not have been tested as
    ## extensively as that contained in the main release, although it includes
    ## newer versions of some applications which may provide useful features.
    ## Also, please note that software in backports WILL NOT receive any review
    ## or updates from the Ubuntu security team.

        Re: N.B. repositories, uncomment?

        Welcome!

I might not be entirely right but my understanding of the Backports situation is that they contain bleeding edge stuff that is being tested alongside the release that is currently being developed, and has probably not been tested on the current version. As a result, you cannot be certain that installation of a backport application will not break something important, e.g the libraries on which it depends might be rather different than those on your system. I would play it safe and stick to the tested packages (and medibuntu if you want multimedia) at least for a little while so as to get a degree of familiarity with the system first.

I believe that The Liquidator is correct. As stated, unless there is a program package that you want to use/try/test and it isn't available without uncommenting these repositories, then best to leave them commented. It is completely up to you.
