    Another Beryl

This is one of the last things I've been struggling with to get my desktop working nicely...

Beryl is installed... and (seems to) run... however, when I open emerald themes and select one, nothing changes... everything is the same as it once was. So my question is this (EDIT: Don't really know exactly WHAT my issue is)... can anyone lend some light on setting up Beryl?!?!

Like I said, Beryl manager is installed/works, Beryl Settings Manager installed/works. Emerald Themes installed/works(?). Maybe I just don't know how to work the program, but the beryl project website yielded very little in regards to walking me through how to use the program... so I'm probing blind and have no clue how to use/interact with it... aside from checking check boxes in the settings manager and then waiting for nothing to happen.

Outside of this... I'm starting to get the hang of this thing... and am getting ready to start playing around with WINE

Right click the Beryl icon, click on Select Window Decorator" and make sure Emerald is selected.

          Hey,

So I've tried to do the "Select Window Decorator" and the Beryl manager has a "Select Window Manager" option in the list... and the submenu gives me either the KWin or Beryl to manage things... but it won't switch to Beryl when I select it... Was there something else I needed to install to make this happen?? I "terminaled" all the components that I thought I would need and installed the following:

          Emerald Theme Manager
          Beryl Settings Manager, and
          Beryl Manager

Well, if you open up Konsole and say "beryl --replace", what does Beryl say?

hmmm - when you can't switch the window decorator I would assume that bery isn't running.
Maybe you thought so because the settings manager lets you select effects and all but...

If beryl would be running you might have known because of the (default) "wobbly window" effect or the desktop cube (click on your wallpaper and use the mouse-wheel). If everything behaves just like you used too beryl ain't working. The matter with the emerald-themes is a strong idicator.
The thing is if you start beryl (via "bery-manager" etc.) and it crashes it automatically falls back to the default window manager (Kwin).

But in order toget it working you should - at least - tell what graphic card you're using. If it's an ati you have to tweak the xorg.conf to get it right....

Just did it, everything passes except:

Checking for non power of two texture support

Support for non power of two textures missing
                Beryl: glxBindTextImageExt is missing
Beryl: failed to manage screen 0
Beryl: No manageable screen found on Display: 0.0

I had to copy this by hand and for some reason can' t read my hand writing tonight (no I'm not drunk, yet) so I think the second line of the "Beryl" might be off slightly. Reason I had to copy by hand was because the script "beryl --replace" would run, but then make the system highly unstable.

                    Re: Another Beryl

Small tip: to get the window decorations back, run "kwin --replace", or, to fall back if Beryl fails, execute "beryl --replace || kwin --replace".

                    Anyway, I'd say sticking
                    Code:
                    Section "ServerFlags"
                    	Option "glXBindTexImageEXT" "1"
                    EndSection
somewhere in the middle of /etc/X11/xorg.conf should do it. (Can't write to it? Execute "kdesu kate /etc/X11/xorg.conf".)
                    For external use only.
