Hi Guys, I've got a dedicated Media PC under the TV - finally got sick of MCE 2005's "quirks" and unreliable operation and decided to give Linux + MythTV a go. Never used Linux before so it's been a learning curve but there's so much info out there - been able to solve all problems except this one: Since the girlfriend hogs the TV I need to be able to remotely log in to the box to do admin on it. I've got SSH working no worries, but being used to windows I wanted a remote GUI session. I downloaded Xming (not sure if that's the best?) can get a remote X session, all sweet, except when I log off, the local user's session dies (I see the kubuntu loader screen come up on the tv, the progress bar totally black, then a few seconds later disappears and I'm left with a black screen and flashing cursor about 2 lines from the top). I can switch to a terminal and restart kdm and get everything back up, but GF not happy, let me tell you! Any ideas what's going on??

Re: Remote X session kills local session on log off
I get the same thing. But it doesn't kill the local session it actually flips the virtual console on the machine kdm is running on. You can get the local session back on screen by pressing alt-F7.
I have been trying to find out why this is happening for some time now but have been unsuccessful. I reported the bug to the KDE team but they cannot reproduce it on other dists, seems to be a (k)ubuntu issue. This bug was present in Edgy and is still present in Feisty.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Randall.
