    MKV To AVI GUI

    Hi,

I was wondering if anyone can tell me how I would go about converting a mkv file to a format that can be burned to a dvd in linux. I got what was in synaptic but it doesn't convert it. Omgrip wont do it either even though it is supposed to.

So can someone help me out.

Unless you insist on a GUI, I think ffmpeg will do what you want.

Thanks I will look in to it. Does it have a help so I will know what commands to use?

Yes, though assembling the command can get somewhat tricky. Shouldn't be too hard, though.

Yeah the command is quite tricky. I got it and took a look at the help but really couldn't find a way to do a simple convert from MKV to AVI.

I don't want to strip anything just want it converted so I can make a dvd of it.

          Any other ideas?

            "ffmpeg foo.mkv foo.avi"?

It'll let you know about anything you need to specify.

Cool will do that. I assume foo is the name of my file. Just kidding I know that much.
