ATI 9550 using FGLRX driver has video playback issues

I am having a problem with my ATI card and video playback, this may come from using a non-standard resolution of 1280x768.

My movies/videos playing in any media player (VLC, Kaffiene, etc..) all play the top half of the video and then the player just cuts off. Sometimes it even skews the aspect ratio to 4:3 if the video is 16:9... I have no idea what or why this is happening... can anyone help?

Is fglrx working ?

Is X video working ?

Is direct rendering working ?

direct rendering: Yes

Errors in the xorg log (/var/log/Xorg.0.log):

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(EE)"

and warnings

cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep "(WW)"

AMD has issued its first-ever hot-fix release for the Linux fglrx driver. This release corrects an aticonfig crash that removes the xorg.conf if you are using the vesa driver.

Hmm - AMD/ATI http://ati.amd.com/support/drivers/l...ux-radeon.html is still offering ATI Proprietary Linux x86 Display Driver 8.38.6
