Media Players

I am using K Torrent in Feisty Fawn 7.04 but cannot get a player to work to view results and have tried several...........with Codeine the progress bar moves quickly..........far too quickly but screen is black with no visuals.........with Kaffeine again progress bar moves quickly but again no visuals...........and with MPlayer Movie Player I get a fatal error message 'Error opening/initializing_out (-vo) device'

any help much appreciated.............don't know how long I can keep calling myself a 'newbie' but still feel that is till very much an appropriate label

    Hi!

You need extra packages to make your media apps work properly.

Launch adept and do a search for libxine-extracodecs (may be wrong about the hyphen so just try extracodecs). If it's not installed, install it.

couple of others - You will probably need W32 codecs and lidvdcss (both illegal in some countries so not available by default) if you want to play encrypted dvds. For legal reasons These are in the medibuntu repositories which are unofficial. For how to set up your PC to use those repositories see http://medibuntu.sos-sts.com/

    Hope this helps

get yourself automatix2, and have the codec's installed. Also try using VLC if possible.
        Using:
Mint Kubuntu 7.10 (kde4 dual core 2.2ghz 4gb)
Freenas (nx6325 hp laptop)
Mint Gnome 7.10 (EEE Pc 4g white 1 gb ram)

Yes, Automatix2 is good as well, especially if you want Thunderbird 2 for example and some other "cool stuff".
