I am curious as to if there are any major differences between these two other than popularity.

Re: What is the major difference between OpenOffice and KOffice?
Thought I might reopen this thread. Are there still any benefits of one over the other? Has Koffice progressed to a point where it is a better choice? Does anyone have sound in the presentation app? Why are there no bones in bananas?I wish I was the man my dog thinks I am.

Registered Linux User No. 402825

really, from everything that I have seen, you can use either one, and it will do what you want..
OpenOffice is dope and full featured, and comes on the system stock... no downloading here...
Koffice is great, but not as robust as OpenOffice...
either one works.. try them both, use the one you like...

Re: What is the major difference between OpenOffice and KOffice?
OOo is akin to MS Office in size, features, compexity, what have you. Koffice is more akin to MS Works Suite. Light, simpler, etc. While Koffice 2 will bring major improvements, it will still be behind OOo. Not a bad thing, necessarily. My wife prefers Koffice apps over Openoffice, just as she prefers the lighter simpler works apps as they are easier to use, and don't have 50,000 bells and whistles (tho for the life of me I don't see why she prefers KDE to gnome )
