    new nvidia drivers 100.14.9

    Hi,

Anyone try out the new Nvidia drivers? Any thoughts? Any opinions? Worth upgrading?

    Thanks

Ooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh --- I'm tempted, very tempted!

On my Kubuntu system, I'm using the nvidia-glx-new package, which has the -9755 driver. I kinda hate to screw it up with experiments. Maybe I'll blow up my Ubuntu 64-bit system, since I used Envy on that one I can easily recover the situation if it blows.

This announcement is good news to the folks with the 8600 and 8800 models -- I don't think they could run any of the previous drivers versions.

Well I made a brief sojourn into installing it and of course I forgot that I needd to uninstall all the older nvidia stuff. It complained about the kernel modules and at that point it was late and I had to have my system back by morning so I put it off. I am also running Kubuntu on amd64.
Keep us posted if you decide to take the plunge and take good notes. :-)

I took the plunge, for about 2 minutes -- that's how long it took to announce that it would not install in a 64-bit environment (my Ubuntu setup). I'm not going to mess with my Kubuntu 32-bit setup -- it would be a crime to mess up such a perfectly running system!

Well, at least not today ....

I installed the latest nvidia-glx-new driver and could never get beryl working. I just got a white screen which I could rotate with the red diamond on the top and bottom of the cube. It was only when I used envy to install the previous nvidia driver, ie nvidia-glx, did all my problems get resolved and the system is now working very well and I am a happy chappy
