Firestarter

Hi,

I installed Firestarter, but it blocks all htpps pages. What do I have to do to be able so that firestarter doesn't block these pages any more?

I checked the Firewall at grc.com and it says that port 80 (http) is open. I have been trying to get it closed for hours without succes now and I would appreciate your help very much.

http is on port 80.
https normally is on port 443.
try open that one and see if it helps.

From what you've said - you want to block incoming HTTP but allow incoming HTTPS?

If I'm wrong, and if your problem is with outgoing (eg you can't get to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ in your favourite web browser) then try looking under Policy -> Outbound Traffic Policy and check it's set to Permissive By Default (or, if you have really good reasons for doing otherwise... well, then you'd know what you were doing and wouldn't need me to tell you anyway).

If you're connected to the internet through a router remember that the portscan will in fact be on the router, and not your computer, unless you've set up a DMZ. Hence why port 80 might seem open (although it's a dodgy router that allows remote administration by default...)

Alt F2 and kdesu firestarter

Adding rules:

Tab Policy > Inbound/Outbound traffic policy > Add Rule (click first in the "Allow service") ->

Add new inbound/outbound rule - window pops up -> Choose: Name -> BitTorrent/DHCP/.../HTTPS/.../Xwindows, click add.

I'm indeed using a router. I'm going to try to solve this using the info you supplied me with.
