Link KMenu to keyboard 'start button' ?

I've been searching for a solution to this for a while, but so far...

I wish to have it similar to windows - all these keyboards have the little 'Windows' key that opens the Start menu, but in ubuntu (Kubuntu for me, Feisty Fawn) it does nothing. It just makes things easier sometimes to be able to hit that one button and have my main menu pop up.

For now the best I have been able to do is go into Keyboard Shortcuts in the K Control Center, and change it from Alt+F1 to Windows key+Space bar. It won't allow a 1-key shortcut. Is there a way to force it to allow 1-key shortcuts?

    Thanks for your time.

Well, I tried this below, but it wouldn't accept just the WIN key. It appears to be used only as a Modifier key only. Like the WIN + L is Lock System in Windows and what I definded myself for KDE.

    Code:
    Go to System Settings.
    Click on Keyboard and Mouse.
    Go to Keyboard Shortcuts
    Global Shortcuts Tab
Scroll Down until you get to the Panel entry
    Click on Popup Launch Menu
Click on predefined short cut and tried changing there.

Thanks MoonRise... There seriously has to be a way to manually edit a file somewhere, so you can force it to accept the single key....

Since it's used as a modifier key, I don't think you can map something directly to it.

You may be able to set one of the Windows keys to some special key with an X keyboard map, but that would render it unusable as a modifier key...

By the way, how do you set it to lock on Win+L? I'd like it to do the same thing here.

Hi to all, i'm a newbie here (in linux too).
            Have you tried CTRL-ESC?
in windows ctrl-esc is the same as the only win-key.

              SheeEttin;

Follow the procedure above, but instead of going to the Panel section, go to the Desktop section. There is an entry there called "Lock Session". I changed the default key shortcut to WIN + L. I only did that because I was so use to it in the other OS.

Same on Feisty. Pretty sure it was the same in Edgy.
