adept manager being used?

when i open the adept manager...
(i just reformatted)
i get this..

and i havent opened it yet..
which is odd
and the first time i tried it, on the previous boot
i went to install things and it said it couldnt install all of it...
halp?

i fear the issue is elsewhere, but let's see the result of this first...
from a konsole, pls, enter the following:

sudo lsof /var/lib/dpkg/lock

Type this in terminal.

sudo dpkg --configure -a

so i decided to reformat...
now most of my applications are not here..
INCLUDING adept...
i dotn know what to do..
linux... nothign but headaches so far..
but i want to know, im eager to learn...
but things need to work sometimes

my piece of advice is to get hold of the kubuntu live cd.
boot with it.
see if all the basic stuff works.
then install.

if you're new to linux, let the installer do things for you.
stick to the official repositories/mirrors.
and keep away from experimental software like beryl.

at least at the beginning...

yeah, the discs i have are from canonical
and, the first 2 times i installed it worked
that one time i think the disc was a lil messed up
i reinstalled and all is well...
i have no problems reformating again...
and i do want to try out beryl...
